Frank Bergerot

The sound is sometimes like a thousand other contemporary bands dotted with the klezmer/gipsy influence, but with a polished repertoire all the same, including rather ambitious works overstepping the Balkan border, and arrangements that make this group of nineteen musicians shine. Among them are several good soloists, such as the trumpet-flugelhorn player Julien Rousseau and the saxophonist Baptiste Bouquin. The program benefits from the invitation extended to Daniel Casimir, Norbert Lucarain and (on an orchestral composition by Serge Adam) Pierre-Olivier Govin. Appearing twice, (notably on an arrangement of a John Zorn piece) Christophe Monniot is spectacular in his way of reacting to the funeral-like arrangement of a traditional Romanian tune. This poignant Doïna I merits the detour. Frank Bergerot
